This video shows the neat pile of garbage we collected off the beach on Thanksgiving Day, Oct. 12, 2009, and left by the side of the road for pickup by the municipal authorities. It took the two of us approximately one hour to assemble this garbage, which littered the beach. We understaand that the locals periodically assemble teams of volunteers to scour the beach for litter, which is commendable. However, this is obviously part of a larger problem involving to a large extent irresponsible fishermen who chuck their empty engine oil containers and other refuse overboard. To their credit, the Maritime Fishermen's has a Clean Oceans campaign to educate fishermen; obviously, though there is a long way to go before the problem is resolved.
