Transportation study session in Digby on Monday
The federal government’s study into transportation needs of southwestern Nova Scotia—including the Digby-Saint John ferry service—will hold public consultations in the area starting Monday.
The South West Nova Scotia Transportation Study was announced as part of the package deal to extend the Bay of Fundy service operated by Bay Ferries.
CPCS, a consultants’ group under contract to the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, is directing the study.
Public sessions are meant to help identify problems and issues with the current transportation system, and possible changes to facilitate development opportunities.
The study’s website notes that with this area’s relative isolation from the rest of Canada, transportation plays a key economic role, both in terms of exporting products as well as bringing in tourists.
“The area’s ferry services are particularly important,” notes the website.
In Digby County, public consultations will be held Nov. 9 in the Digby Fire Hall and Nov. 10 at Université Sainte Anne in Church Point. Both sessions will be held from 7-9 p.m.
Other sessions will be held in Yarmouth, Middleton and Shelburne.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the sessions, and are asked to confirm attendance by emailing SWNovaStudy@cpcstrans.com , by contacting the Annapolis Digby Regional Development Agency or James Frost of CPCS at (902) 429-3121.
More information is available on the study website www.swnstransportationstudy.ca
